Ansel migrated from Trinidad to the UK in 1965 to earn, learn and then return. He earned, learnt but did not return.
 
For the past 57 years, he has had an extensive engagement with Britain as a combatant, advocate and beneficiary. 
 
As an Arsenal supporting pensioner, he is currently Trustee of The Carnival Village Trust, Director of Notting Hill Carnival Limited, Director of East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Network, Vice-Principal of Savile Row Academy, Member of the Windrush Commemoration Committee & the DCMS Events & Entertainment Working Group.
 
In a recent Time Out feature in October 2018, Ansel was adjudged one of 50 Great Londoners: the 5th .
 
He has been prominent in promoting the arts & culture of the Caribbean through his activism and creation of community organisations & was awarded the CBE in October 2020 in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to art & culture.

Lionel McCalman

Lionel McCalman was born in Guyana, South America. He is the former leader of Nostalgia Steel Band, the UK’s original ‘traditional’ steel band (founded in 1965), and a retired Senior Lecturer in Education Studies from the University of East London. Today, he is an active musician, and part-time music teacher at a local school. He also runs a community music project, The Entertainers Steel Band, in Nottingham.

Leandra Box, Secretary

Leandra is a senior manager at the Race Equality Foundation, a leading UK equalities charity. Her career has been largely within the voluntary sector and has consistently focused on tackling disadvantage and inequality, particularly in the field of parenting and family support.

Leandra was born and brought up in the area and is a parent to one daughter who spent many years as a member of Paddington Arts, enjoying learning and performing dance and steel pans.
