Ryan Munroe, Associate Artist
Ryan Munroe is freelance choreographer and dance facilitator. He trained at London Contemporary Dance School whilst maintaining a keen interest and practise in other dance styles and genres. Beginning the journey of seeing the world through a visual and physical lens. Ryan’s work includes working for universal records, nbc universal, independent site-specific work and dance theatre. Ryan also teaches across the U.K, taking not only an interest in moving bodies but individuals and the physical ‘lived’ experience.
Not only does Ryan facilitate dance across the U.K but also across a diverse range of abilities, ages and access to dance, working with groups who cater to those who need additional help, creating dance with individuals with access needs and or limited physical capabilities. Other groups also include dance sessions or movement workshops for over 60’s or mature bodies ranging from mature dancers to those with limited or no dance/movement experience. Ryan’s work also reaches individuals who want to pursue working in dance and arts to those with no dance experience or exposure to dance, projects that exemplify this are ‘The Place’ school partner projects, Curator and movement director for Paddington Arts, Dance leader for workshops in schools, community centres and projects local council authorities, movement direction on theatre shows, to choreography and dance facilitation for international performance company ‘Living the dream’. In addition Ryan’s independent work ranges from performance within dance theatre to costume design, within his design work Ryan has eco-consciousness and sustainable focus which he would eventually like to bring into his theatrical practice, in hopes of bringing more
ethical practices into theatre making/production.
Through facilitating dance Ryan has worked with ages starting from Key Stage one to movers over eighty, different racial and socio – economic backgrounds, holding a sensitivity to different learning styles and needs of participants. Ryan Munroe is keen to keep pushing the scope of where dance can be seen and live!
Ryan’s journey into clothes and costume design started during his dissertation on upcycling clothes during his dissertation for his degree from London Contemporary Dance School. Alongside Ryans evolution as a performer and dance creator Ryan continues to build his portfolio as a clothes and costume designer. A year after graduating Ryan got his first costume commission for ‘Meraki Movement’ – for the ‘East Wall’ performance commission by East London Dance, from there Ryan has created costume for dance performances including- ‘Feet off the ground’, ‘Tarek Khwiss Dance’, ‘Valerie Ebuwa’ and ‘Paddington Arts’. Ryan’s creativity is expanding now working with Drag and Music artists, and consultant stylist for photography/digital formats and most recently working with Caldonia Dances for ‘Alex’. With his collaborations and personal projects Ryan continues to upskill and explore possibilities for working and using sustainable materials.
Ryan endeavours to push his artistry through visual arts with open mindedness, versatility and sense of environmental responsibility.
